Increased Wildfire Risk Today

The National Weather Service has issued a statement for an increased wildfire risk for Allegany, Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Calvert, Carroll, Charles, Frederick, Prince George's, St. Mary's, and Washington Counties, as well as Baltimore City in effect until 1:35 PM. The combination of strong winds and low relative humidity will enhance the threat for the spread of wildfires from midday todaythrough this afternoon. South winds will increase to 15 MPH with gusts to around 25 MPH and the relative humidity will drop to around 30 percent in some areas. Dry fuel moisture is low, generally 5 to 7 percent. Residents are urged to exercise caution handling any potential ignition source, including machinery, cigarettes, and matches. Be sure to properly discard all smoking materials. Any dry grasses and tree litter that ignites will have the potential to spread quickly.
