Mr Bill Howard has been a volunteer firefighter at our station for 70 years now. We are proud and in awe of how many years he has put into this company and our community. He was recently acknowledged for his 70th year at our Annual Meeting this year.

An excellent interview and writeup was done by Alexander Pyles of patch.com and can be found here. This story has now made it into the national media by being highlighted on Huffington Post.

Thanks to Patch and Huffington Post for celebrating with us the wonderful dedication and achievements of one of America’s bravest.

At 1943 hours on January 24th, Engine 312 was alerted for an investigation of an odor of smoke at Reisterstown Road and Painters Mill Road. Engine 312 responded with 3 volunteers. Engine 312 was driving down Reisterstown Road into a 19 box investigating when they noticed a glow in the window of an office building off of Reisterstown Road. Engine 312 turned around and while pulling up to 9921 Reisterstown Road (19-4 Box) the fire vented out of a window on the second story of the building. Engine 312 went on location requesting the firebox and switched to Tac 22. Engine 312 passed command to Engine 19 and went to work – forcing entry into the office building and putting a knock on the fire. Units operated on the scene for approx. 3 hours before going in service.

At 1505 hrs on December 9th, Firebox 31-24 was alerted for the Building Fire at the McDonald’s at 9774 Groffs Mill Road. Engine 312 responded as the first due engine. While en route, dispatch advised units that a fryer had caught on fire at this location. Engine 312 arrived to find moderate smoke inside the building. The crew from 312 pulled an 1 3/4″ handline into the structure to find a small amount of fire behind a fryer that had been held in check by the sprinkler system and an employee with an extinguisher. Crews put the remaining fire out and checked for extension. The fire caused moderate damage although the water damage was much more extensive. Units remained on the scene for approx. an hour before returning to service.
