Many of the members were with their family and friends on Christmas Day and generally things were very quiet. The station was hit for 3 fireboxes throughout the day and members came down to man station 31. Only the last one (at 9p) Fire box 18-10 turned out to be a working fire which the Truck and Engine responded. So, all-in-all it was a safe day around Owings Mills.

Today we had the first snow fall of the year which resulted in the roads being extremely slippery. This resulted in a large number of accidents and one of our busiest days of the year. We had a total of 16 suppression calls throughout the day and evening, most being 10-50 PIs, but included some fire boxes and medical assists.

Near midnight tonight calls were received for an apartment fire up from our firestation in Glyndon’s box area (40-7). Engine 312 got out immediately and arrived first at the address and took command. Truck 313 which responded shortly afterward (and others came down to the station to attend Engine 311). A search for the fire was started on the main floor but was quickly found to be in the basement. One member from our station fell partly through the floor in the kitchen but quick work from another member and from Station 41′s crew pulled him out and they continued to the basement (via the stairs) to put a knock on the fire. The fire was extinguished and crews confirmed there was little extension the floor above the fire. Many thanks to Station 41′s crew for looking out for our member.

Station 31 has run 2 kitchen fires in almost as many days. The first was a kitchen fire in our first due that came out as an apartment  fire.  Engine 312 arrived first and management said the sprinkler system put the fire out. We investigated and checked for extension.  The second kitchen fire (below) was much larger and it took crews from the surrounding area (Station 41, 56, 40, 31 and several others) to get control of the fire.

Today was a busy day for Station 31 with back-to-back fire boxes including one in our first due.  In total 8 calls were taken by the volunteers including a few medical calls and car accidents.  Below are some pictures from the 18-1 and the 31-24 firebox.
