Three members from Owings Mills were able to expand their rescue knowledge this weekend at a “Big Rig Rescue” class sponsored by the Baltimore County Volunteer Fireman’s Association and taught by Instructor Billy Leach Jr. All participants attended a three hour classroom session Friday October 21st and a hands-on all day session Saturday October 21st. Volunteers from Truck and Squad companies all over Baltimore County were placed in crews made up of members of surrounding companies and given five different “Big Rig” scenarios. Scenarios included an overturned cement truck and tanker trailer, tractor and school bus over-ride, and a trailer under-ride. Participants in the course learned how to better stabilize these “Big Rig’s” to be able to care for and extricate patients in a real life situation. Thanks to the organizing committee, the BCVFA, Billy Leach Jr., and the multiple tow companies who assisted with the training.
